Thônes
A small town in the Northern Alps, with a population of 5500,
tucked away next to its 17th century church tower and dominated
by the well known peaks of la Tournette (2351 m) and Lachat
(2024 m).
The town of Thônes invites you to discover its countryside
, heritage, way of life, history and spirit and wishes you
a pleasant stay in the heart of the valley.
Built on the confluence of the Fier
and the Nom, the town of Thônes (650 m altitude) has
for a long time been the administrative, cultural, and economic
center of the valley of Thônes-Val Sulens. Agriculture
plays a dynamic role because of the production and marketing
of Reblochon, the famous cheese whose production is based
around Thônes, it is also renowned for other cheeses
such as Chevrotin des Aravis and Tomme and smoked mountain
hams.

La
Clusaz
Has a variety of skiing opportunities
at 1100 m to 2600 m, with a range of slopes and levels of
difficulty, a warm welcome from the locals and the charm of
a traditional village which is hundreds of years old. It is
also the birth place of world champion skiers.
|
|
|
|
Le
Grand Bornand
Nestled at the foot of the Aravis mountain chain, it is a
mountain village in harmony with its environment and a ski
station which offers all forms of slide sports in a natural
beauty spot. The alpine ski resorts are accessible from the
village of Le Grand-Bornand (altitude 1000 m) or Le Grand-Bornand
Chinaillon (altitude 1300 m), and are linked at Mont Lachat
(altitude 2100 m). The Bouchet valley is a favourite place
for cross country skiing with a slope which joins up with
Les Confins. Meanwhile a more athletic circuit is situated
next to the characteristically old village of Chinaillon.
|
|
|
|
Manigod
An exceptional community where tradition
enriches the open air and emotions and passions grow like
the mountains. Wooden chalets covered with shingles, chapels
and oratories all reflect the history of the village. Ideal
for family skiing with access from Merdassier or la Croix
Fry and everything is at hand: down hill slopes which are
linked to those at La Clusaz, cross country skiing, walking
on snow shoes... The village with its traditional valley which
is both beautiful and calm is well worth visiting.

|
|
|
Saint
Jean de Sixt
This little corner of the Aravis
mountains which is nestled at the heart of the chain, 3km
from La Clusaz or Le Grand Bornand, invites you to make the
most of mountain life. An ideal place to get together with
family or friends, it is also a great place of discovery.
Its ski slopes for beginners offer a low cost introduction
to skiing. Snow shoe walking and cross country skiing enable
you to experience the area's natural beauty.

Le
Reblochon - A.O.C Cheese
Reblochon fermier is made in Thônes
and in the valleys of the Aravis mountain chain from local
farmers' alpine milk. A green label is placed on each cheese
to guaranty that it isan authentic farm produced cheese.
Each farm has handed down its recipe
from generation to generation making each farm produced cheese
a little different. Reblochon with a red label is made industrially
from non locally sourced milk. Milk for reblochon only comes
from 3 races of cows l'Abondance, la Tarine and la Montbéliarde,
but mainly from l'Abondance as they have the highest quality
mountain milk.
The cows feed only on grass and hay and never silage. In June
the cows are let out into the Alpine pastures and return to
the farm in the autumn for the winter and the agricultural
fairs.
